Export Committees on Emerging Technology, Materials, Transportation to Meet

Emerging Technology and Research Advisory Committee. This committee advises the Bureau of Industry and Security on emerging technology and research activities, including those related to deemed exports, and will meet March 23. The open session will include an update on export control issues, a review of emerging technologies in the news (including the effects of regulatory uncertainty, genetic testing, 3-D graphene, and airborne optics and photonics), recent export control and emerging technologies activities, and a discussion of industry sectors being reviewed by the committee (electronics and graphene circuits, graphene metamaterials, robotics and big data, optoelectronics and photonics, additive manufacturing, advanced materials, autonomous technology, and hypersonic). Requests to participate in the open session via teleconference are due by March 16.

Materials Processing Equipment Technical Advisory Committee. This committee advises BIS on technical questions that affect the level of export controls applicable to materials processing equipment and related technology and will meet March 7. The open session will include discussion of proposals and results from the last Wassenaar meeting and a report on proposed and recently issued changes to the Export Administration Regulations. Requests to participate in the open session via teleconference are due by Feb. 28.

Materials Technical Advisory Committee. This committee advises BIS with respect to technical questions that affect the level of export controls applicable to materials and related technology and will meet March 9. The open session will include a discussion with industry on current illicit procurement trends related to the carbon fiber production process and associated commodities, as well as regime and working group discussions. Requests to participate in the open session via teleconference are due by March 2.

Transportation and Related Equipment Technical Advisory Committee. This committee advises BIS with respect to technical questions that affect the level of export controls applicable to transportation and related equipment or technology and will meet March 8. The open session will include status reports by working group chairs as well as public comments and proposals. Requests to participate in the open session via teleconference are due by March 1.
