Auto Parts Kitting Facility Requests FTZ Production Authority

Sandler, Travis & Rosenberg Trade Report

The Foreign-Trade Zones Board has received from Brake Parts Inc. a notification of proposed production activity at its facility within subzone 176G in McHenry, Ill., which is used for the kitting of aftermarket automotive parts. FTZ activity would be limited to the specific foreign-status materials and components and specific finished products described in the notification and subsequently authorized by the FTZ Board.

Production under FTZ procedures could exempt BPI from customs duty payments on foreign-status components used in export production. On its domestic sales, BPI would be able to choose the duty rates that apply to master cylinder kits, brake drum kits, brake pad kits, brake shoe kits, and brake caliper kits (zero to 2.5 percent) for the foreign-status inputs. Customs duties also could possibly be deferred or reduced on foreign-status production equipment.

Comments on this notification are due no later than Dec. 21.
