Sandler, Travis & Rosenberg Trade Report

The Foreign-Trade Zones Board has received from the County of Monroe, N.Y., grantee of FTZ 141, a notification of proposed production activity at the John D. Brush & Co. d/b/a Sentry Group facility in Pittsford and East Rochester, N.Y. This facility is located within subzone 141F and is used for the manufacturing and warehousing of fire-resistant safes and secured storage devices.

Production under FTZ procedures could exempt Sentry from customs duty payments on the foreign-status components used in export production. On its domestic sales, Sentry would be able to choose the duty rates that apply to fireproof safes made of steel, fire- and water-resistant storage chests, gun safes, security safes, portable security safes, cash boxes, key boxes, safe boxes, drawer safes, depository safes and commercial safes (ranging from zero to 3.8%) for specified foreign-status inputs. Customs duties also could possibly be deferred or reduced on foreign-status production equipment.

Comments on this notification are due no later than July 17.
