Sandler, Travis & Rosenberg Trade Report

The Foreign-Trade Zones Board has approved production under zone procedures at the AFL Telecommunications LLC facility within FTZ 38 in Duncan, S.C., which will be used for the production of optical cables for data transfer. This approval is subject to a restriction requiring aramid yarn, ripcord, binder string, and water swellable yarn to be admitted to the zone in privileged foreign status, thereby precluding inverted tariff benefits on such items.

The FTZ Board has received from Generac Power Systems Inc. a notification of proposed production activity for its facilities in Jefferson and Whitewater, Wis. Generac already has authority to produce generators, pressure washers, engines, and related components within subzone 41J and the current request would add finished products and foreign status materials and components to the scope of authority. Comments are due no later than Oct. 1.

The FTZ Board has received from the KOM Foreign Trade Zone Authority, grantee of FTZ 189, a notification of proposed production activity at the Helix Steel facilities in Grand Rapids, Mich., which is used for the production of twisted steel micro rebar. Comments are due no later than Oct. 1.
