The Federal Maritime Commission announced July 8 that it has developed a Web services filing option that automates the SERVCON process, through which vessel-operating common carriers and non-vessel-operating common carriers file service contracts and amendments or NVOCC service arrangements with the FMC. The Commission states that this option allows the unique data already entered in a filer’s contract management system to be pushed directly to SERVCON, eliminating the time and expense involved in manually logging into this system. The FMC states that benefits include improved filing accuracy, which will lower the chances of a Bureau of Enforcement review that may result in additional costs to resolve; accelerated filing of contracts and NSAs; and the elimination of labor costs associated with manual data entry. Technical guidelines for testing and implementation of the Web services filing option are available here.
