Sandler, Travis & Rosenberg Trade Report

According to the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, Curaçao has qualified for the enhanced trade benefits provided under the Caribbean Basin Trade Partnership Act, effective with respect to goods entered or withdrawn from warehouse for consumption on or after Aug. 18. CBTPA provides for duty-free access to the U.S. market for certain apparel, luggage and footwear products manufactured in designated beneficiary Caribbean Basin countries under several different scenarios, some of which require the use of U.S.-formed yarns, fabrics and thread. USTR explains that Curaçao has met the requirements of the Caribbean Basin Economic Recovery Act relating to the implementation of customs procedures and requirements similar to those in chapter 5 of NAFTA that assist U.S. Customs and Border Protection in verifying the origin of the products.
