Monday, June 16, 2014

Hong Kong SAR, China... Former China Customs official Harry Zhang has joined leading international trade law firm Sandler, Travis & Rosenberg (ST&R) as its vice president for China customs consulting and compliance. Mr. Zhang will also work closely with the firm’s related global managed services company Sandler & Travis Trade Advisory Services (STTAS) in assisting its multinational clients with China trade compliance.

“Customs and trade compliance is always critical for importers and exporters because of the impact it can have on their bottom lines,” said Tom Travis, Managing Partner of Sandler, Travis & Rosenberg, P.A. “As a former China Customs official, Harry brings a deep understanding of the inner workings of China Customs on the local, regional and country-wide levels. His experience working with large multinationals in navigating how the complex regulations and rules associated with trade in China are applied at local ports will prove to be invaluable to clients of both ST&R and STTAS,” added Travis, who also serves as Chairman of STTAS.

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Zhang worked for a global professional services firm overseeing trade and customs management services in the South China and Hong Kong regions for multinational corporations. Earlier in his career he served for six years with China Customs, holding positions in the Investigation, Audit and Risk Management divisions and leaving the agency as a section chief in the Administrative Legal Affairs Division. His expertise includes tariff classification, valuation, import licenses, free trade agreements, free trade zones, bonded operations, logistics management, inspection and quarantine, customs audit and anti-smuggling case defense, compliance programs, reviews and training, and dispute settlement. He holds a bachelor of law degree from the South China University of Technology.

Sandler, Travis & Rosenberg, P.A. (ST&R) concentrates its practice in assisting clients with the movement of goods, personnel and ideas across international borders. Sandler & Travis Trade Advisory Services Inc. (STTAS), a global trade managed services company, offers a single-window compliance management method that provides multinational companies a seamless solution to reduce risk, increase cargo clearance speed, and reduce costs.

Together, ST&R and STTAS comprise the largest dedicated international trade and customs firm in the world employing more than 750 global trade professionals working out of 12 offices in North America, South America, Asia and Europe.
