Background

Miami, Fl…International trade and customs law firm Sandler, Travis & Rosenberg, P.A. (ST&R) announced today that Miami-based attorney Lenny Feldman will expand his leadership role in the trade community through positions with two influential organizations on local, national and international levels.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner R. Gil Kerlikowske, after receiving confirmation from the secretaries of the Treasury and Homeland Security, has named Feldman to a two-year term as a member of the federal Advisory Committee on Commercial Operations of CBP (commonly referred to as COAC). COAC is a 20-member committee that advises the departments of Homeland Security, Treasury and other government agencies on matters such as import enforcement and procedures, export controls, automation of federal agency operations, product safety, the role of customs brokers, and supply chain security issues, including development of the C-TPAT and Trusted Trader programs.

Feldman was also recently elected to be Chairman of the Board of Directors of World Trade Center Miami, an organization that plays a leading role in spurring growth in international commerce in the Miami-Dade County region and the state of Florida as well as more broadly throughout the Western Hemisphere.

These two new leadership positions reflect recognition of Feldman’s long involvement as a leader on trade issues. He also currently serves as legal counsel to the Florida Customs Brokers and Freight Forwarders Association and as a director on the boards of the regional District Export Council, the Miami-Dade Department of Regulatory and Economic Resources International Trade Consortium, and the Miami-Dade Freight Transportation Advisory Council.

“ST&R has had a significant voice in local, state and national trade initiatives for nearly 40 years, and Lenny represents the next generation of firm leadership continuing that tradition,” said Founding Partner Lee Sandler.

“It’s truly an honor to work with the best and brightest in the trade community’s public and private sectors,” Feldman said. “Working together I am confident that we will continue to find innovative ways to develop policies that increase the competitiveness of Florida and the United States in today’s global marketplace.”

Feldman is a member of ST&R’s Operating Committee, which oversees the firm’s operations and sets its strategic vision, and also co-chairs ST&R’s Import/Export Practice Group.

Before joining ST&R, Feldman served as a senior attorney with the U.S. Customs Service. His wide-ranging practice includes import classification and valuation, seizures and penalties, trade preference qualification, intellectual property, importer/broker compliance, export controls and C-TPAT/supply chain security. He also assists clients with regulatory issues involving import and export compliance and enforcement and product safety and admissibility. He is a leader in educating business officials and Florida elected officials on the local, state and federal levels concerning international trade and business reform.

Founded in 1977, Sandler, Travis & Rosenberg, P.A. and its affiliated Global Trade Compliance Management firm STTAS comprise the largest customs and international trade services provider in the world.
