ITC Launches Second Investigation on Effects of IPR Infringement in China
The International Trade Commission announced May 25 that it has launched the second of two investigations into the economic effects of intellectual property rights infringement in China. The ITCs first investigation, which is assessing frameworks for measuring the effects of such infringement, was instituted May 5. In this second investigation, the ITC will describe the size and scope of reported IPR infringement in China, provide a quantitative analysis of the effects of that infringement on the U.S. economy and U.S. jobs, and discuss and quantify the actual, potential and reported effects of Chinas indigenous innovation policies on the U.S. economy and U.S. jobs.
The ITC will hold a public hearing in connection with these investigations on June 15 in Washington, D.C. Requests to appear at the hearing should be filed no later than June 1. In addition, written submissions for the record should be submitted no later than Nov. 16. The ITC expects to deliver its second report to the Senate Finance Committee by May 2, 2011.
