ERIN CLARK is Senior Export Controls Advisor for Sandler, Travis & Rosenberg, P.A., based in San Diego, California. Ms. Clark has almost 20 years’ experience in global trade compliance.  Her clients include a diverse range of U.S. and foreign entities from a broad array of industries, including aerospace, automotive, chemical, defense, electronics, energy, manufacturing, network systems, satellites, semiconductors and telecommunications.  Ms. Clark primarily assists clients in complying with the regulatory requirements applicable to the export/re-export of items and services controlled under the EAR, with a particular focus on the cryptography controls, the export/reexport/temporary import of defense articles, services, and technical data controlled under the ITAR, as well as the sanctions administered by OFAC.  She also advises clients on the trade laws and regulations of other countries. 

Specifically, Ms. Clark routinely assists clients by conducting internal commodity jurisdiction determination (CJ) reviews and, when applicable, drafting formal CJ review requests for submission to DDTC; obtaining export commodity classifications, licenses and other authorizations, namely from the BIS and DDTC; conducting export compliance reviews; providing export compliance training specific to the client and/or functional area; designing, improving and implementing export compliance programs, which includes drafting company-specific policies and procedures; conducting export compliance due diligence related to mergers and acquisitions; as well as supporting voluntary self-disclosures. 

Prior to joining the firm, she provided trade compliance consulting services at a major accounting firm and worked in export compliance positions for companies in the Fortune Global 500, including as an Empowered Official.  Ms. Clark holds a Master’s degree in International Affairs and Business Management from the University of California at San Diego and Bachelor’s degrees, cum laude, in Political Science and Spanish from the University of Texas at Austin.  She is also a licensed customs broker.
