The Consumer Product Safety Commission is planning to hold a CPSC Safety Academy Sept. 18 in Seattle, Wash., to discuss current regulatory requirements, including testing and certification of children’s products, the mandatory toy standard and compliance processes. Individuals interested in serving on panels or presenting information relevant to the agenda at this event should advise the CPSC via e-mail by June 10. All other individuals who wish to attend in person should register online by Sept. 9. The CPSC advises that this event will not be available via webcast.

The Safety Academy will feature a morning program that is more basic in nature along with an afternoon session that will address more complex issues. The morning panels will cover (a) reporting requirements, processes and basic regulations, (b) additional processes, including fast track recalls, and (c) flammable fabrics, drawstrings and sleepwear. The afternoon panels will include (a) testing, mandatory testing, component parts testing, and certificates of conformity, (b) the CPSC import process, and (c) F963-11 toy standards.
