Sandler, Travis & Rosenberg Trade Report

The Department of Transportation’s Port Performance Freight Statistics Working Group will hold its first public meeting July 15 in Washington, D.C. This meeting will provide an overview of the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation Act and an update on DOT’s progress in implementing its Port Performance Freight Statistics Program. The working group will then commence development of a list of tasks and subtasks necessary for it to:

- identify a generally accepted industry standard for port data collection and reporting;

- specify standards for collecting data and reporting nationally consistent port performance measures;

- make recommendations for statistics measuring U.S. port capacity and throughput; and

- develop a process for DOT to collect timely and consistent data, including identifying safeguards to protect proprietary information.
