Sandler, Travis & Rosenberg Trade Report

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has issued a final rule amending its regulations pertaining to the export and import of nuclear materials and equipment. This rule:

- conforms U.S. export controls to revisions adopted by Nuclear Suppliers Group member states in 2012 and 2013 to the NSG’s international export control guidelines;

- adds Mexico and Serbia as NSG member countries that are eligible to receive radioactive materials under certain general licenses for export; and

- incorporates by reference the current version of the International Atomic Energy Agency’s “Nuclear Security Recommendations on Physical Protection of Nuclear Material and Nuclear Facilities,” which was published in January 2011.

This rule is effective as of Aug. 11, except that certain changes will be effective Dec. 31.
