Sandler, Travis & Rosenberg Trade Report

The Environmental Protection Agency has issued a final rule that, effective July 31, authorizes uses of methyl bromide that qualify for the critical use exemption and specifies the amount of methyl bromide that may be imported or produced for those uses in 2014 and 2015. The critical use exemption permits the import and production of methyl bromide for uses that do not have technically and economically feasible alternatives. The critical uses for 2014 include selected pre-plant uses involving strawberry fruit as well as selected post-harvest uses in food processing (rice and pet food), commodities and dry cured pork products. The critical uses for 2015 include only pre-plant uses involving strawberry fruit.
