The Maritime Administration is requesting applications by Dec. 28 for eligible vessels to potentially enroll in one or more Maritime Security Program operating agreements in accordance with the provisions of the Maritime Security Act of 2003. The MSP maintains a fleet of active, commercially-viable, privately-owned vessels to meet national defense and other security requirements and to maintain a U.S. presence in international commercial shipping.

Acceptable vessels must meet the requirements of 46 USC 53102(b) and 46 CFR 296.11 as well as certain general evaluation criteria established by the Department of Defense. Priority consideration will be given to applications providing for enrollment of the following vessel types in order of priority: roll-on/roll-off vessels, tankers, heavy lift vessels, geared containerships, and all other vessel types.
