The Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Marketing Service has issued a final rule that, effective Jan. 13, streamlines the importation process for table eggs, hatching eggs and inedible liquid egg by allowing the import request (LPS form 222) to be filed electronically through the International Trade Data System.

The Shell Egg Surveillance Program administered by AMS ensures that shell eggs sold to consumers contain no more restricted eggs than are permitted in the standards for consumer grades. Applications to import shell eggs under this program must be made as far in advance as possible prior to the arrival of the product. Each application must state the approximate date of product arrival, the name of the ship or other carrier, the country from which the product was shipped, the destination, the quantity and class of the product, and the point of first arrival.
