Sandler, Travis & Rosenberg Trade Report

The Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued a final rule increasing from $2.25 to $2.50 the value below which disposable lighters are subject to the Commission’s safety standard for cigarette lighters. This standard requires disposable and novelty lighters to meet specified requirements for child resistance and defines disposable lighters in part as refillable lighters that use butane or similar fuels and have a customs value or ex-factory price below a given amount. That figure is adjusted every five years to the nearest $0.25 in accordance with percentage changes in the Producer Price Index.
