Cybersecurity Proposal to be Among Topics of Export Advisory Committee Meetings

The Bureau of Industry and Security has announced partially open meetings of the following advisory committees in Washington, D.C. There will be a limited number of seats available at each open session, which will also be accessible via teleconference to 20-25 participants.

- The Emerging Technology and Research Advisory Committee, which advises BIS on emerging technology and research activities, including those related to deemed exports, will meet Oct. 15-16. The open session will include a discussion of export controls on intrusion and surveillance items, including a proposed rule BIS released in May and comments received on that proposal.

- The Materials Processing Equipment Technical Advisory Committee, which advises BIS on technical questions that affect the level of export controls applicable to materials processing equipment and related technology, will meet Oct. 27. The open session will include a discussion on the results and proposals from the last Wassenaar meeting and a report on proposed and recently issued changes to the Export Administration Regulations.

- The Information Systems Technical Advisory Committee, which advises BIS on technical questions that affect the level of export controls applicable to information systems equipment and technology, will meet Oct. 28. The open session will include a discussion on the scope of products to be controlled as intrusion software as well as an industry presentation on proposals for the Wassenaar 2016 cycle.
