FDA Export Certificates for Cosmetics Now Only Available Online

Sandler, Travis & Rosenberg Trade Report

Effective June 3, Food and Drug Administration export certificates for U.S.-produced cosmetic products are available only online and paper export certificates are no longer available. Some foreign importers and governments may require such certificates to accompany shipments of these goods, but the FDA does not require them.

The FDA’s Certificate Application Process Web site allows cosmetic exporters to submit applications, receive certificates and track processing online. They can also receive status updates via email and have the ability to copy, edit and resubmit applications. To create an account in CAP exporters should click here, select “Create New Account” and then “Certification Application Process,” and fill in the required contact information. Applicants will receive an email notification when their account has been activated.

The FDA adds that these certificates now have a unique identifier that can be used by FDA-authorized foreign government officials to verify the authenticity of the certificates. In addition, exporters need to ensure that the printed certificates are clear and legible.
