Container Loss, Cargo Ship Safety to be Discussed at Aug. 27 Meeting

The State Department’s Shipping Coordinating Committee will conduct an open meeting Aug. 27 at the Coast Guard headquarters building in Washington, D.C. The primary purpose of this meeting is to prepare for the 18th session of the International Maritime Organization's Sub-Committee on Dangerous Goods, Solid Cargoes and Containers, which will be held Sept. 16-20. The agenda for the Aug. 27 meeting will include general cargo ship safety, measures to prevent the loss of containers, amendments to the International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code and supplements (including harmonization with the United Nations recommendations on the transport of dangerous goods), and revised guidelines for packing cargo transport units.

Members of the public planning to attend this meeting should contact the meeting coordinator no later than Aug. 20.
