The Food Safety and Inspection Service is hosting a public meeting June 18 at the Department of Agriculture headquarters building in Washington, D.C., to provide information and receive public comments on agenda items and draft U.S. positions that will be discussed at the 31st session of the Codex Alimentarius Commission, which will take place July 1-5 in Rome. This meeting will also be available by conference call (1-888-858-2144, participant code 6208658).

Through the adoption of food standards, codes of practice and other guidelines developed by its committees, and by promoting their adoption and implementation by governments, Codex seeks to protect the health of consumers and ensure that fair practices are used in the food trade.
