Chemical Transportation Advisory Committee to Address Safe and Secure Transportation Issues

The Coast Guard’s Chemical Transportation Advisory Committee and its subcommittees will meet Aug. 19-21 in Arlington, Virginia, to discuss the safe and secure marine transportation of hazardous materials insofar as it relates to matters within the Coast Guard’s jurisdiction. Subcommittees will meet Aug. 19-20 to address a range of outstanding issues. The agenda for the Aug. 21 meeting will include introduction and opening remarks, public comment period, harmonization of response and carriage requirements for biofuels and biofuel blends, recommendations on safety standards for the design of vessels carrying natural gas or using natural gas as fuel, recommendations for safety standards for ship-to-ship transfer of hazardous material outside of the baseline, recommendations for guidance on the implementation of revisions to MARPOL Annex II and the International Code for the Construction and Equipment of Ships Carrying Dangerous Chemicals in Bulk, requirements for third-party surveyors of MARPOL Annex II prewash operations, improving implementation of and education about discharge requirements under MARPOL Annex II and V, Coast Guard presentations on several items of interest, and scheduling matters.

Interested parties may submit comments by Aug. 11 and attendees will also be required to pre-register by that date.
