Safety of Ships, Containers and Cargo Among Topics of State Dept. Meeting

The State Department’s Shipping Coordinating Committee will hold an open meeting May 26 in Washington, D.C., to prepare for the 95th session of the International Maritime Organization’s Maritime Safety Committee, which will be held June 3-12 at IMO headquarters in the United Kingdom. Agenda items to be considered at the May 26 meeting include the following.

- measures to enhance maritime security - carriage of cargoes and containers - ship design and construction - formal safety assessment, including general cargo ship safety - piracy and armed robbery against ships
