State Dept. to Review Topics for UN Meeting on Cargo and Container Carriage

The State Department will conduct an open meeting Sept. 2 in Washington, D.C., to prepare for the second session of the International Maritime Organization's Sub-Committee on Carriage of Cargoes and Containers, which will be held in the United Kingdom Sept. 14-18. Items on the agenda for that meeting include the following.

- safety requirements for carriage of liquefied hydrogen in bulk

- revised guidelines for packing of cargo transport units

- consideration of reports of incidents involving dangerous goods or marine pollutants in packaged form on board ships or in port areas

- mandatory requirements for classification and declaration of solid bulk cargoes as harmful to the marine environment

Members of the public may attend this meeting in person or, upon request, participate via teleconference. Those who plan to participate should notify the meeting coordinator no later than Aug. 24.
