Sandler, Travis & Rosenberg Trade Report

The Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Marketing Service has issued an interim rule that, effective April 5, will exempt apples shipped to Canada in bulk containers from the minimum requirements and inspection provisions of the Export Apple Act. This rule also defines “bulk container” as one that contains a quantity of apples weighing more than 100 pounds. Inspection will still be required for apples shipped in containers of less than 100 pounds that are not otherwise exempt. Comments on this rule are due no later than June 3.
