Kazakhstan Moves Closer to WTO Membership
The World Trade Organization announced June 10 that the negotiations on Kazakhstan’s accession to the multilateral body have been successfully completed. Accordingly, the draft WTO accession package will be submitted to members for formal approval when the meeting of Kazakhstan’s working party reconvenes on June 22. The package will then be forwarded to the General Council for formal adoption by all 161 WTO members. The WTO indicates that Kazakhstan’s membership in the Eurasian Economic Union (which also includes Armenia, Belarus and Russia) made the market access negotiations particularly complex and unique.
