Sandler, Travis & Rosenberg Trade Report

The Foreign-Trade Zones Board is accepting comments through March 10 on a notification of proposed production activity at the Apple Inc./GT Advanced Technologies Inc. facility in Mesa, Ariz. Specifically, Apple/GT is requesting authority to manufacture intermediate components for consumer electronics for export. FTZ activity would be limited to foreign-status white alumina block, forged metal industrial heat-treating equipment, and diamond cutting wire.

Separately, the FTZ Board has authorized production activity under zone procedures at the Rolls Royce Energy Systems Inc. facility in Mount Vernon, Ohio, which is used for the production of industrial gas turbines, power generation turbines and generator sets. FTZ activity will be limited to the following components sourced from abroad: AC generators, industrial gas turbines, turbine bases, acoustic enclosures, gearboxes (transmissions) and combustion liners (duty rates of 2.4% to 2.5%).
