U.S. to Review FTA Environmental Commitments with Singapore, Chile

The United States and Singapore intend to hold a meeting Aug. 3 to review implementation of the environmental chapter of their bilateral free trade agreement and the results of environmental cooperation under their memorandum of intent guided by the 2013-2014 plan of action, which was extended to the end of 2015. The two sides also expect to approve a new 2016-2017 POA. Written comments or suggestions regarding implementation of the environmental chapter and the POAs should be submitted no later than July 31.

Separately, the U.S. and Chile intend to hold on Aug. 13 the seventh meeting of the Environment Affairs Council established under chapter 19 of their bilateral FTA as well as the fifth meeting of the U.S.-Chile Joint Commission on Environmental Cooperation established under the U.S.-Chile Environmental Cooperation Agreement. The two sides will discuss the progress made in implementing chapter 19 obligations and the impacts of environmental cooperation. The commission will also finalize an updated environmental cooperation work program for 2015-2017.
