The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has added 130 chemicals to its Safer Chemicals Ingredients List, including 199 fragrance chemicals used in commercial and cleaning products.

The 602-item Safer Chemicals Ingredients List serves as a resource for manufacturers, consumers and environmental advocates. It also serves as a guide for Design for the Environment (DfE) labeled products, which must meet rigorous EPA standards for protecting human health and the environment.

The Safer Chemicals Ingredients List was created in September 2012. According to the EPA, chemicals may be removed from the list or have their status changed based on new data or innovations that raise the safer-chemistry bar.
