The U.S. Trade and Development Agency announced Dec. 22 a $460,000 grant to assist in the modernization of Brazil’s surface transportation infrastructure by expanding the use of intelligent transportation system technologies. The grant was awarded to EcoRodovias, a Brazilian private intermodal logistics and highway concessionaire company, which plans to use the USTDA grant to develop a practical and detailed implementation plan for the acquisition, deployment and integration of new ITS technologies into its transportation infrastructure. According to USTDA, this project presents significant export opportunities for U.S. firms in such areas as variable traffic message signs, highway monitoring systems and emergency communication system technologies.
