Dates and Deadlines in the Weeks Ahead

Following are highlights of regulatory effective dates and deadlines and federal agency meetings coming up in next two weeks. More details on these and other items can be found in our Trade Activity Calendar.

Dec. 21 – deadline for comments on challenges that U.S. inventors and companies are facing with the judicial and/or administrative patent enforcement systems of China

Dec. 22 – deadline for comments on proposed amendments to International Traffic in Arms Regulations to implement defense treaties with Australia and UK

Dec. 22 – deadline for comments on factors that may cause or contribute to the shift of containerized cargo destined for U.S. inland points from U.S. to Canadian and Mexican seaports

Dec. 27 – deadline for comments on proposed rule to increase the informal entry limit from $2,000 to its maximum statutory limit of $2,500

Dec. 27 – effective date of final rule adding provisions for (a) the use of sampling methods in CBP audits and prior disclosure cases and (b) the offsetting of overpayments and over-declarations when an audit involves a calculation of lost revenue or monetary penalties under 19 USC 1592

Dec. 27 – deadline for comments on proposed rule to standardize the type of authorization used to permit the importation of otherwise prohibited or restricted plants and plant products for experimental, therapeutic or developmental purposes

Dec. 30 – deadline for comments on proposed revocation or modification of classification rulings on toy money, RV air conditioners, baked crème brulee, travel coffee cups and nickel bolts

Dec. 30 – deadline for all petitions submitted as part of the 2011 annual review of the Generalized System of Preferences
