High Docking Fees in Alaska Subject of FMC Complaint
The Federal Maritime Commission has received a complaint from a Canadian company against an Alaskan corporation operating as a marine terminal operator. The complainant alleges that its vessels pay a higher per-foot dockage fee than other vessels and that the respondent’s dockage tariff is therefore unlawfully discriminatory. The complainant wants the FMC to order a halt to these violations as well as reparations in the amount of the actual injury plus interest, costs and attorneys’ fees. The FMC expects to make an initial decision by Nov. 23, 2012, and a final determination by March 25, 2013.
