STTAS Engaged To Provide Conflict Minerals Managed Services

Detroit, Mar. 19, 2013-- Sandler & Travis Trade Advisory Services, Inc. (STTAS), the leading provider of government and private sector tariff, trade and customs services, proudly announces that another major automotive supplier has enlisted STTAS to provide managed services in support of their conflict minerals requirements.

“We have seen increasing interest in our conflict minerals service offerings since the beginning of 2013,” said STTAS Senior Vice President Gianluca Romano. “We have identified many synergies between these regulatory requirements and our existing free trade agreement/origin services. We are excited to leverage our experience and resources in support of this new program.”

Under regulations published by the Securities and Exchange Commission in August 2012, companies that file reports with the SEC under the Securities and Exchange Act of 1934, whether foreign or domestic, must use a new Form SD to disclose their use of tantalum, tin, gold or tungsten originating in the Democratic Republic of the Congo or an adjoining country if those minerals are necessary to the functionality or production of a product they manufacture or contract to manufacture. These minerals are used in the manufacture of a wide range of goods such as cell phones, computers and video game systems, medical equipment, high-speed tools, machine parts, glass and lamps. Subject companies must comply with this rule for calendar year 2013 and the first reports will be due May 31, 2014.

STTAS can solicit, audit, track, archive and maintain conflict minerals origin data for its clients. In addition to the above services STTAS professionals also work closely with its clients’ purchasing and engineering staffs to identify materials that can be excluded from the reporting requirements, as well as the suppliers that produce those excluded materials.
